In spring 2007, the Villa Gillet and Le Monde organised the first ever International Forum on the Novel in Lyon.
The event both aimed and proved to be a totally new and original literary event. Novelists from all over the world were involved, each of them different in their tone, their style and their choice of narrative voice, but united by their passion for the novel. In organising the International Forum on the Novel, we wanted to give a voice to the authors. The chosen title, 'Reality and the Novel', gave them the chance to connect the changeable contours of their work to an elusive but ever-present reality.
