THE AUTHORS
Abdelwahab Meddeb
Franco-Tunisian writer and poet Abdelwahab Meddeb teaches comparative literature at the University of Nanterre, and is host of "Cultures d’Islam" on the radio station France Culture. Released in 2002, La Maladie de l’Islam (Seuil) lays the groundwork for a discussion, continued in Pari de civilisation, on the possible remedies for the crisis in Islam today, and the violence resulting from the failure of Islam to adapt to the contemporary world. An advocate for tolerance, Meddeb suggests in a lively and erudite style the need to modernise Islam, by way of a spiritual approach, one that is more open and in constant dialogue with its founding text, the Koran.
